Built on Adventure. United by Community.
Second Watch Overland was founded on the belief that the outdoors has the power to bring people together, restore perspective, and strengthen lives. Through overlanding, camping, and shared experiences, we're building a community where every trail leads to meaningful connections.
More Than an Overlanding Group
Second Watch Overland isn't defined by the vehicles we drive or the miles we travel. It's defined by the people who gather around the campfire, share stories after a long day on the trail, and encourage one another through life's adventures.
We believe that meaningful connections happen when people step away from the distractions of everyday life and spend time together in the outdoors. Whether it's learning a new skill, exploring an unfamiliar trail, or simply enjoying a quiet morning with a cup of coffee, every experience becomes an opportunity to build relationships that last.
For some, Second Watch Overland is a weekend escape. For others, it's a chance to reconnect with themselves, strengthen old friendships, and discover new ones. No matter where your journey begins, you'll find a welcoming community ready to share the road ahead.
Why "Second Watch"?
Throughout history, the second watch represented a time of vigilance, responsibility, and trust. While others rested, those standing the watch remained alert, looking after the people in their care.
That spirit continues to inspire everything we do.
Second Watch Overland is built on the idea that we look out for one another both on and off the trail. We celebrate victories together, help each other through challenges, and believe that community grows stronger when people know they don't have to face life's journey alone.
Adventure may bring us together, but looking after one another is what keeps us connected.
Meet James & Susan
Every great community begins with people willing to be honest about where they have been and hopeful about what comes next.
After decades of service, James and Susan understood the weight veterans and first responders can carry long after the uniform comes off. Susan served in the United States Air Force and later as a VA Police Officer. James served in the United States Marine Corps before spending more than twenty years in law enforcement.
Second Watch Overland grew from their own search for healing, connection, and purpose beyond service. Quiet evenings together on the beaches of Galveston gave them space to slow down, talk openly, and reconnect with each other and themselves.
Our Mission
Second Watch Overland exists to strengthen the lives of veterans, first responders, and their families through overland adventures, outdoor experiences, peer support, and community service.
We foster resilience, purpose, healing, and connection by bringing people together in the outdoors and helping them rediscover their strength beyond service.
Through shared experiences, meaningful relationships, and adventure with purpose, we are building a community where individuals and families can reconnect with themselves, each other, and the world around them.

What Makes Second Watch Different?
Many organizations focus on the destination.
We focus on the people.
While the trails are memorable and the scenery is unforgettable, the lasting impact comes from the friendships built along the way. Every event is designed to encourage conversation, learning, and shared experiences that continue long after the trip ends.
We're not interested in who has the biggest vehicle or the most expensive gear. We're interested in creating a place where everyone feels welcome, everyone has something to contribute, and everyone leaves better than they arrived.
Because adventure is only part of the journey.
Community is what brings us back.
