Two Lives of Service. One New Mission.

James and Susan spent decades serving others in the military, law enforcement, and veteran community. Second Watch Overland grew from their own search for healing, connection, and purpose beyond the careers that had shaped so much of their lives.

Today, they are building a community where veterans, first responders, and their families can slow down, reconnect, and begin writing their next chapter together.

Some Experiences Follow You Home

Like many veterans and first responders, James and Susan carried experiences that were not always visible to the people around them.

There was the weight of trauma, hypervigilance, anxiety, sleepless nights, and the quiet sense that people outside their professions could not fully understand what they had seen or carried.

Even while surrounded by people who loved them, there were times when they felt disconnected from others, from themselves, and from the sense of purpose that had defined much of their lives.

Their story is not about having every answer.

It is about recognizing that healing deserves the same honesty, patience, and commitment as any other mission.

The Question That Changed Everything

What If Other People Were Searching for This Too?

One evening, as the sun disappeared into the Gulf, James and Susan asked a simple question:

What if there are other veterans and first responders searching for this same sense of peace?

That question became the beginning of Second Watch Overland.

They realized the healing was not coming from the beach alone. It came from slowing down, being present, reconnecting with one another, and finding purpose beyond the careers that had defined them.

They believed those same moments could happen in other places too.

A quiet forest.

A mountain overlook.

A winding backroad.

A campfire beneath a sky full of stars.

A New Mission

Built on Adventure. Driven by Healing.

James and Susan created Second Watch Overland to strengthen the lives of veterans, first responders, and their families through overland adventures, outdoor experiences, peer support, and community service.

Their purpose reaches beyond exploring beautiful places.

They want to create opportunities for people to reconnect with nature, strengthen relationships, rediscover purpose, and remember that they do not have to face life’s challenges alone.

Through shared experiences and meaningful relationships, they are building the kind of community they once needed themselves.
